Microsoft releases printable Windows 10 key shortcut list

Categories Microsoft, NewsPosted on

Well do you know your Windows key shortcuts in Windows 10? Just go through my previous post for handy keyboard shortcuts on Windows 10. If you need a cheat sheet, Microsoft has just published one that you can download and print.

While Microsoft already offers online documentation on keyboard shortcuts, the format of the page can be difficult to sift through. Fortunately, Microsoft now offers an offline version in Word .DOCX format

Thanks to Mary Jo Foley for spotting it.

There are 42 shortcuts in total, mostly dealing with window management, the Start menu, the Task view, and Cortana. Keep in mind the list only includes Windows key shortcuts, not shortcuts involving Ctrl or Alt.

Introducing Visual Studio Code, a new, free, cross-platform code editor for building modern web and cloud applications on Mac OS X, Linux and Windows

Microsoft announced the launch of Visual Studio Code, a lightweight cross-platform code editor for writing modern web and cloud applications that will run on OS X, Linux and Windows at the //Build developer conference

At its Build developer conference, Microsoft announced the launch of Visual Studio Code, a lightweight cross-platform code editor for writing modern web and cloud applications that will run on OS X, Linux and Windows. You can now download it here.

This marks the first time that Microsoft offers developers a true cross-platform code editor. The full Visual Studio is still Windows-only, but today’s announcement shows the company’s commitment to supporting other platforms.

VSCode is folder and file based. You can open a folder and work on its files. No project file. No solution file. Just grab the code folder and go. When there is a project context, such as with ASP.NET 5, and you open a folder (with an ASP.NET 5 project), VSCode detects the project context.

Visual Studio Code offers developers built-in support for multiple languages and as Microsoft noted in today’s Build keynote, the editor will feature rich code assistance and navigation for all of these languages. JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js and ASP.NET 5 developers will also get a set of additional tools.

The editor features all of the standard tools you would expect from a modern code editor, including syntax highlighting, customizable keyboard bindings, bracket matching and snippets. It also works with Git out of the box and

You can also follow Visual Studio Code on Twitter at @code.

Installing

Read the docs and see the links below for more details on the prerequisites and how to install and get up and running with VSCode.

  1. Get started
  2. Download Visual Studio Code

Top Features

  1. Debugging – awesome, fast, and easy debugging of server side JavaScript and and C#
  2. Intellisense – C#, TypeScript and even for JavaScript and JSON … not to mention autocomplete and hints
  3. Git integration – super helpful to be able to integrate with git, show diffs, stage, commit, clean
  4. Refactoring – tons of features that make refactoring easy and fast

I like VSCode because it’s super-fast and provides some rich development features (code completion, navigation, deployment, debugging, Git, task running).

At-last i shall say  It’s fast editing experience is similar to what you get with brackets, Sublime while it’s debugging and integration experience is similar to what you get with Visual Studio.

Hello Windows 10: Release Date – July 29

Categories MicrosoftPosted on

Terry Myerson –

Today, I’m excited to share the availability date for Windows 10. In fact, I thought I’d let Cortana, the world’s most personal digital assistant, share the news. You can ask Cortana for the answer, or if you don’t have a Windows phone or a PC running the Windows 10 Insider Preview handy – you can hear it for yourself.

Yeah it’s official now! Microsoft has publicized the release date of Windows 10.  Windows 10 will be available on July 29 in 190 countries. This is the day in which all existing Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 users who reserved their free upgrade will be able to install Windows 10.

Hear Cortana announcing the date!

Microsoft on Monday announced that Windows 10 would hit the market on July 29, nearly three years after the company launched Windows 8. Windows 10 will initially be available for laptops and PCs and Microsoft hasn’t yet announced when smartphones and tablets will get the upgrade. The company hasn’t yet announced pricing details for Windows 10, although the final retail price has been tipped.

Microsoft has said it has been working to ensure that all your apps from previous versions of Windows work smoothly on Windows 10. Myerson says, “The Windows 10 upgrade is designed to be compatible with your current Windows device and applications. We are hard at work to make this upgrade process a great experience.”

This is excellent news for all users looking to upgrade to Windows 10 soon. Microsoft recently started the Windows 10 advertising campaign by allowing Windows 7 and Windows 8 users to reserve their upgrade via a popup on the taskbar. July 29th is exactly where rumors were pointing earlier in the year, so it looks like Microsoft are on track.

To get Windows 10 on launch day, Microsoft suggests that you reserve a copy. The company says the reservation process, for both upgrades and purchases, is simple. An update notification will pop up in the system tray of eligible computers and user can click the notification to complete the reservation process. Alternatively users can reserve a copy by visiting this page. Should you purchase a PC or laptop running Windows 8.1 between now and July 29, the device will be eligible for a free update to Windows 10. Microsoft said many retail stores will be able to update these computers to Windows 10 for free.

The Windows 10 upgrade is designed to be compatible with your current Windows device and applications*. We are hard at work to make this upgrade process a great experience. You can reserve your free Windows 10 upgrade now through a simple reservation process. Look for this icon in your system tray at the bottom of your screen, simply click on the icon, and then complete the reservation process. Terry Myerson further added that, Windows 10 for other devices would be available later this year. You can find more details on how this works at Windows.com.

Windows 10

If you purchase a new Windows 8.1 device between now and then, the Windows 10 upgrade will be available to you and many retail stores will upgrade your new device for you.

Releasing Windows 10 on July 29th. Count Down has begun. Will you be upgrading?

People Sense – finding friends on Windows Phone

Categories Apps, Microsoft, NewsPosted on

peoplesense

According to Spanish-language site Microsoft Place, the company is in the process of developing an app called People Sense, which looks to deeply integrate Bing Maps with messaging and calling features.

Currently in the development stage, People Sense, codenamed Buddy Aware will allow you to share your location in real time with contacts stored on your agenda. The basic concept is familiar if you’ve seen Apple’s Find My Friends, but there’s a stronger emphasis on reaching out — you can call or message contacts in-app, and even get directions if you’d like to meet face to face.

In addition to providing real-time location info for the people you follow, it will give detailed directions to contacts’ locations and also have calling and messaging baked right in. By the looks of it, the only thing it lacks is notifications for when friends are nearby, though more features might be on the way.

The features included are:

  • Share your location in real time with your contacts.
  • Integrated messaging and calling application.
  • Integration with navigation applications step by step drawing paths to your contacts.
  • Integration with your favorite places to show like “home” or “work”
  • New features to be added before leaving the store

The application is currently not available in the store . You must wait a little longer to enjoy it.

Microsoft has posted a teaser on Facebook which hints at a new Lumia announcement coming on November 11.

The post includes a close up of a front-facing camera and the date 11.11.2014. Along with the image, the Nokia Facebook page cryptically states the motto “Big on experiences” and the hashtag #MoreLumia’.

This might be the youth-oriented midranger that has leaked before with Microsoft Lumia branding. This one is supposed to sport a 5″ HD screen, a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon chipset, 1 GB RAM, and a 5 MP camera. In any case, the date given is 11.11, so not much more to wait before all is revealed.
